Train ride to Romania

Rolling through Slovakia

Rolling through Slovakia

We left Brno in the Czech Republic on an overnight train for Braşov, in Romania.  We are headed to the Carpathian Mountains (also called the Transylvania Alps in this area)  in Romania to do some hiking, see some more castles and maybe get inundated with Vlad the Impaler (aka Dracula) trinkets.

We rode through Slovakia and after Bratislava the train followed the Danube river down to Budapest.  This was our first sight of the Danube and along the way we saw the impressive cathedral in Esztergom and then the hilltop fortress at Visegrad from across the river.  We had a brief stop at the train station in Budapest, and then continued on our night train across Hungary and into Romania. We’ll be back here later to visit with Alexa’s mom and aunt, so for now we just passed through on our way to Romania.
